Kiosk

Introduction

The Kiosk Mode turns Android devices into purpose-built devices suitable for work-related applications. End users can therefore only use the app approved by the organization and use approved device functions on provided devices with Kiosk Mode activated.

For this purpose, there are two modes that can be applied to Android devices - one is Single App Mode and the other is Multi App Mode

Kiosk in Single App Mode

The Single App Mode is a locking mechanism that restricts device access to a single application. Devices running in Single App Mode serve only one purpose: running a specific application with minimal device functionality. The application starts itself, runs in the foreground, and is restarted even when the devices are shut down or rebooted. In this way, Kiosk Mode ensures proper use of the devices while avoiding unnecessary distractions for users.

  1. in the Relution portal, navigate to Devices > Policies and click on Add.

  2. Create an Android policy and give it a Name. Click on Save.

  3. After clicking Add, select Kiosk Mode option and continue with Add Details.

  4. Activate the Single App Mode within the Kiosk Mode configuration and select an app.

  5. Save the configuration after selecting additional options and restrictions and publish the current version of the policy.

  6. To apply the policy to Android devices, add the desired devices using the Devices with this policy tab. The selected settings will then be automatically applied to the devices.

Kiosk in multi-app mode

The Multi App Mode restricts devices to a specific selection of applications relevant to the work requirements of the organization. Users have the possibility to access and use shared applications. The Kiosk Mode allows complete control over device usage and ensures that devices are only accessed and used for specific purposes.

  1. In the Relution portal, navigate to Devices > Policies and click Add.
  2. Create an Android policy and assign a Name. Click on Save.
  3. After clicking Add, select Kiosk Mode option and continue with Add Details.
  4. If the option Single App Mode is deactivated, you have the possibility to add an app selection.
  5. Furthermore, you get more options, of which the following are relevant for you:
  • Show only installed apps - if disabled, all available apps will be displayed and offered for download.
  • Show apps installed by administrator - this applies to apps that have been installed on the devices via the Install app action.
  1. Save the configuration after selecting additional options and restrictions.

  2. If necessary, add the App compliance configuration to the Kiosk Mode configuration.

  3. Publish the current version of the policy.

  4. To apply the policy to Android devices, add the desired devices using the Devices with this policy tab. The selected settings will then be automatically applied to the devices.
