WiFi

The WiFi policy allows managing the WiFi settings on Android Classic devices. A policy can contain several WiFi configurations, e.g. for different networks. Placeholders can be used in the configuration and are resolved per device during transfer; the available placeholders are shown in the form below the input fields.

Restrictions on WiFi usage, e.g. allowed or blocked SSIDs and a minimum security level, are not defined here but via the separate Wireless network restrictions configuration.

General

  • The network’s SSID – name of the network (mandatory).
  • Priority – integer from 0. If multiple networks are available, the device first connects to the network with the highest priority. By default, all networks have priority 0.
  • This network is hidden – for networks that do not broadcast their SSID.
  • Encryption type – None / Open (default), WEP, WPA/WPA2 PSK or 802.1x EAP (EAP). For WEP and WPA/WPA2 PSK, the Password field is mandatory; for WPA/WPA2 PSK, it must be 8 to 63 characters long.

802.1x EAP (EAP)

This section only appears for the encryption type 802.1x EAP (EAP). Under Accept EAP types, PEAP (default), TLS, TTLS and PWD are available. Depending on the type, the following fields are shown:

  • PEAP and TTLS: Phase 2 Authentication (None, MSCHAP, MSCHAPv2, GTC or PAP, default: None), CA certificate, Identity, Anonymous identity and Password. For PEAP, PAP and MSCHAP are rejected when saving.
  • TLS: CA certificate, User authentication certificate and Identity. Two options are available for the user authentication certificate:
    • Select certificate – a certificate with a private key (PKCS#12) from Certificate management →.
    • Use user certificate – the Wi-Fi certificate from the profile of the user assigned to the device (see User certificates →). The optional Certificate name field selects a specific certificate by name if the user has several Wi-Fi certificates and may contain placeholders. If left blank, the longest-lived certificate is used.
  • PWD: Identity and Password.

Certificates without a private key (PKCS1) from certificate management are available as CA certificate.

Proxy type

  • None (default) – no proxy.
  • Manual – Host (without protocol) and Port (1 to 65535) of the proxy server are mandatory. Bypass proxy for takes a list of addresses that are not routed through the proxy.
  • Automatic configuration – PAC URL with the address of the PAC file (mandatory).
