File transfer via USB

USB data transfer (files/pictures) is no longer selectable on Android devices; the corresponding menu item is missing on the device. This is because Google no longer accounts for a field in the API that controls USB access—the function has since been disabled by default.

Restoring the function

As of Relution 5.22.4, a new default value is set server-side for fully managed devices and managed devices with a personal profile (COPE) that re-enables the function:

  1. Updating Relution to at least version 5.22.4 (see changelog →).
  2. Checking the policy: the default value only applies if the policy does not regulate USB file transfer itself.
    • In the Restrictions configuration, the option Disable USB file transfer must not be enabled (see Restrictions →).
    • If the policy contains a Device connectivity → configuration (as of Relution 5.24.0), its USB data access setting applies instead of the default value. Allow USB data transfer must be selected there. With the preselection Unspecified, USB file transfer remains blocked.
  3. Reapplying policies on the affected devices: Under Devices → Inventory, a filter is set for all Android devices, all devices are selected, and the policies are reapplied via the three-dot menu.
