Relution Homescreen as home app/Launcher

Problem and cause

In addition to the configuration of the same name, which configures the app as a kiosk, Relution Homescreen can also be configured as a separate launcher and set as the default. This enables notifications to be displayed on the lock screen, the menu to be opened from the top of the screen and system apps to be displayed.

Solution

Relution Homescreen can also be configured as an app in the Manage apps configuration. The disadvantage of this is that Relution Homescreen is not selected as the default launcher. There is the Preferred activity configuration for this. Here you can change the default behavior of Android in certain situations.

Two configurations must therefore be used on the device: Manage apps and Preferred activity.

Configuration of the “Manage apps” configuration

  1. The app Relution Homescreen (io.relution.homescreen) must be added and the installation forced.
  2. The corresponding configuration can be created manually under Configure.

Configuration of the “Preferred activities” configuration

  1. Click on Add in the configuration and select Add app manually

  2. Enter Relution Homescreen as the name and io.relution.homescreen as the internal name.

  3. The following parameters must be filled as follows:
    3.1 Activity: io.relution.homescreen.MainActivity
    3.2 Category: android.intent.category.DEFAULT and
    3.2.1 android.intent.category.HOME
    3.3 Actions: android.intent.action.MAIN

The policy with the two configurations must then be assigned to a device group and thus to the devices.
