Display

This configuration manages the display settings of a managed Android Enterprise device.

The Display configuration determines whether brightness and screen timeout are chosen on the device by the user or enforced. In the portal, the configuration is labelled with the enrollment mode Managed Device; it applies to fully managed devices and to managed devices with a personal profile (COPE), not to devices with a work profile (BYOD). It can be added only once per policy.

Both settings are located in the General section and consist of two levels: a selection field defines the mode, an indented field below it defines the value. The value field can only be edited if the selected mode requires a value.

Brightness

Brightness is controlled by two fields: the mode and the brightness value.

Configure Brightness

Determines how the screen brightness is controlled.

Options:

  • User configured – Brightness is set on the device. This option is preselected in a new configuration.
  • Adaptive brightness – Brightness is adjusted adaptively; in addition, the value from the Screen brightness field is transmitted.
  • Fixed brightness – Brightness is fixed to the value in the Screen brightness field.

Screen brightness

Mandatory as soon as Adaptive brightness or Fixed brightness is selected under Configure Brightness. With User configured, the field is locked and no brightness value is sent to the device.

The hint text in the portal reads: “The screen brightness can be configured on a scale from 1-255, where 255 is the maximum brightness”. Values outside this range are not accepted; no default value is prefilled.

Screen timeout

The screen timeout is also controlled by two fields: the mode and the duration.

Configure screen timeout

Determines whether the time until the screen turns off is enforced.

Options:

  • User configured – The timeout is set on the device. This option is preselected in a new configuration.
  • Fixed timeout – The timeout is fixed to the value in the Screen timeout field.

Screen timeout duration

The Screen timeout field can only be edited with Fixed timeout. The available values are 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes; 30 seconds is preselected.
