Relution offers several ways to install apps on devices, depending on the managed platform:
- Installation via action
- Installation via policy configuration
- Installation via auto deployments
Each of these ways has features that can be useful in certain use cases.
Installation by action
On devices managed in Relution, apps can be installed via an action. To do this, the Actions tab is opened in the device details and the Apply action button is clicked. Two actions are available for iOS:
- Deploy Relution store app installs an app from the Relution Store, i.e. an in-house (native) app or a public app stored in the Relution Store.
- Deploy an app from the Apple App Store searches for the app directly in the Apple App Store; the App Store country can be selected.
For tvOS, only Deploy Relution store app is available. On Android Enterprise devices, the action is called Install app from Google Play Store.
The app to be installed is then selected. For iOS, the same step offers the following installation options, which are enabled by default:
- Remove app on Enterprise Wipe: The app is removed from the device during an Enterprise Wipe.
- Allow user to lock the app: The user may lock the app on the device (iOS 18.1 and later).
- Allow user to hide the app: The user may hide the app (iOS 18.1 and later). This option is only available if locking is also allowed.
Next leads to the last step, which lists the devices the action will be applied to. Clicking Apply creates the action.
A new action then appears in the action overview; the installation starts as soon as the action has been delivered to the corresponding device.
For apps from the Apple App Store, Relution automatically assigns a license during installation if licenses for the app are available via Apps and Books (VPP in the portal).
Installation via policy configuration
Installing apps via policy configuration is a more sensible approach for a larger number of apps and devices than doing this via actions individually.

Installation via auto-deployment
Auto deployments are user-specific app installations. They depend on the user assigned to the device and on that user’s groups. When an auto deployment is created, the app is installed immediately on all existing devices of the users concerned; for groups, this includes the members of subgroups. Devices that are later assigned to one of these users also receive the app. A version of the app in release status is required.
On devices with the Relution Shared Device → configuration, the app is installed as soon as the user logs in to the device. If the Disable user specific automatic app installations option is enabled in this configuration, auto deployments are not installed on these devices.
If apps from auto deployments are missing on a device, Relution can additionally create compliance violations for them. To do this, the Add additional compliance violations when app auto-deployments are missing option is enabled under Settings → Device Management. It is disabled by default.
The settings for auto deployments can be found in the following places in the Relution portal:
User or group details
At the bottom of the detail page of a user or group, apps can be assigned specifically to that user or group.
App details
In the app details, users or groups are assigned in the Auto Deployments tab using the edit icon. The tab is only shown if a version of the app is in release status. For macOS apps and for tvOS apps from the App Store, licenses via Apps and Books must also be available.
