Mathematical Settings

Starting with version 26.1.0, Relution also provides the Math Settings configuration for devices running macOS 15+.

This policy centrally manages the functions and modes of the Apple Calculator app and adapts them to educational or organizational requirements. Compared to iOS, the macOS Calculator additionally offers a Programmer Mode and input in reverse Polish notation (RPN), which can also be configured here.

Configuration

In the portal, the configuration is divided into the sections Calculator and System behaviour. When the configuration is created, all options are enabled except Add Square root. A policy can contain one Math Settings configuration. Relution transfers the settings via Declarative Device Management (DDM) and only to devices that support this configuration type; older devices do not receive them.

Settings for the Apple Calculator App

Basic Mode

  • Add Square root: Adds a square root button to the basic calculator by replacing the +/- button. By default, the square root function is only available in scientific mode. This option makes the square root accessible even if scientific mode is restricted.

Math Notes Mode

  • Enabled: Determines whether Math Notes mode can be used within the Calculator app.

Programmer Mode

  • Enabled: Determines whether Programmer Mode can be used within the Calculator app. Only available on macOS.

Scientific Mode

  • Enabled: Specifies whether the scientific mode of the Calculator app is available.

Global Input Options of the Calculator

  • Enable reverse polish notation (RPN): Determines whether input in reverse Polish notation can be used. Only available on macOS.
  • Enable unit conversion: Allows the use of the built-in unit conversion feature within the app.

System Behavior

  • Enable keyboard suggestions: Controls whether keyboard suggestions automatically display mathematical solutions. The Keyboard Settings → configuration also contains an option for mathematical keyboard suggestions, Allow Math Keyboard Suggestions.
  • Enable Math Notes for other apps: Determines whether the Math Notes feature can also be used in other apps (e.g., Notes).
