Setup Assistant
On this page
The configuration Setup Assistant hides setup steps that macOS shows on a Mac that has already been set up, e.g. when another user signs in for the first time or after a software update. The configuration is not available for devices with User Enrollment (BYOD).
Difference from the DEP profile
The setup steps selected in the DEP profile → of Automated Device Enrollment (ADE, DEP in the portal) only apply to the initial setup of the Mac. The configuration Setup Assistant, on the other hand, is installed on the enrolled device via a policy and affects setup steps that macOS shows afterwards.
The configuration is therefore not a prerequisite for enrollment. It is only needed if no additional setup steps should be shown after the initial setup either.
