Single App Mode for tvOS
The Single App Mode configuration restricts an Apple TV to a single app. In this mode, users cannot exit the app or switch to other Apple TV functions. The configuration is available in iOS and tvOS policies and can be added once per policy. For iPhone and iPad, it is described under Single App Mode →.
Single App Mode is intended for supervised devices, see Supervised Mode / Supervision →.
Adding the configuration
The configuration is created in the Relution portal via Devices → Policies → {tvOS policy} → Add → Single App Mode → Add details. Configurations can only be added to a draft version of the policy. The policy is then published so that it can be assigned to devices.
Selecting the app
In the General section, the application that runs in Single App Mode is set in the mandatory App field via Select app. The configuration cannot be saved without a selected app. The Select app dialog offers the same sources as in an iOS policy:
- Relution App Store app: Selection from the iOS platform apps in the Relution App Store.
- Apple App Store App: Search in the public Apple App Store.
- iOS System or built-in app: Selection from the list of known iOS system and built-in apps.
- Manually add app: Entry of an app via Name and Internal name (bundle ID).
Apps that are created in the Relution App Store for the tvOS platform only do not appear under Relution App Store app. They are entered with their bundle ID via Manually add app.
Options
The Device controls, Assistent systems and Accessibility Shortcut sections are the same as in the form of an iOS policy. Relution transfers the selected settings to the Apple TV unchanged; tvOS determines which of them take effect there. Several options refer to iPhone and iPad controls that an Apple TV does not have, such as the touchscreen, screen rotation, volume buttons or the side switch.
Device controls
- Deactivate touch: Blocks touch input on the screen.
- Deactivate motion (screen rotation): Prevents switching between portrait and landscape mode.
- Deactivate volume buttons: Locks the volume buttons.
- Deactivate side switch: Deactivates the mute switch.
- Deactivate sleep/wake button: Prevents the device from being turned off or put to sleep using the sleep/wake button.
- Deactivate auto-lock: The device does not automatically enter sleep mode when inactive.
Accessibility
The following accessibility features are enabled while Single App Mode is active if the respective switch is turned on. In the portal, this section is labeled Assistent systems.
- VoiceOver: The screen reader is turned on.
- Zoom: Screen magnification is turned on.
- Invert Colors: The display colors are inverted.
- AssistiveTouch: The on-screen digital assistance menu is turned on.
- Speak Selection: Highlighted text is read aloud.
- Mono Audio: Audio output is switched to mono.
Accessibility Shortcut
This section defines which accessibility features users can turn on and off themselves via the accessibility shortcut: VoiceOver, Zoom, Invert Colors and AssistiveTouch. A switch can only be enabled if the option of the same name is enabled in the Assistent systems section, otherwise it remains grayed out.
