Restrictions

Below is an overview of the available watchOS restrictions.

The Restrictions configuration is available for watchOS devices running watchOS 10 or later (hint watchOS 10+ in the form). Individual restrictions are marked Supervised in the portal and only take effect on supervised devices; they are marked accordingly in the overview below.

In the portal, the restrictions are grouped into the areas Device, Apps (with the sections General and Siri), Settings, Modifications and Lockscreen. By default, all switches are enabled except Force Apple Watch wrist detection and the two options for performing dictation and translation on the device only. With the default values, the device is therefore not restricted.

The download icon at the top of the form (Export restrictions as CSV file) downloads the configured values, including unsaved changes, as a CSV file.

Device

Show all restrictions
  • Force Apple Watch wrist detection
    • When enabled, wrist detection on the Apple Watch is always on and cannot be turned off.
  • Perform dictation on the device only, do not connect to Siri servers
    • When enabled, connections to Siri servers for dictation are disabled.
  • Perform translation on the device only, do not connect to Siri servers
    • When enabled, connections to Siri servers for translation are disabled.

Apps

The Apps area is divided into the sections General and Siri.

General

Show all restrictions
  • Allow installing apps
    • When disabled, apps cannot be installed or updated on the Apple Watch.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).
  • Allow App Removal
    • When disabled, removing apps on the watchOS device is not possible.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).
  • Allow App Store
    • When disabled, the App Store is not available on the Apple Watch.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).
  • Allow automatic app downloads
    • When disabled, apps purchased on other devices are not downloaded automatically. Updates of apps that are already installed are not affected.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).

Siri

Show all restrictions
  • Allow Siri while device is locked
    • When disabled, the user cannot use Siri while the device is locked. This setting is ignored if the device has no passcode set.
  • Allow Siri to query user content on the web
    • When disabled, Siri may not query user-generated content from the web.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).

Settings restrictions

Show all restrictions
  • Send diagnostic and usage data to Apple
    • When disabled, the device is prevented from automatically sending diagnostic and usage data to Apple.
  • Allow screenshots and screen recordings
    • When disabled, screenshots and screen recordings cannot be taken.

Modifications restrictions

Show all restrictions
  • Allow Account modification
    • When disabled, account modifications are not possible in the settings.
    • Only effective on supervised devices (Supervised).

Lockscreen restrictions

Show all restrictions
  • Allow Notifications to show in the Notification Center on the lock screen
    • When disabled, no notifications are shown on the lock screen and the Notification Center cannot be opened while the device is locked.
