Apple School Manager Import Configuration

Overview

The ASM Import Configuration enables Relution to create new users based on data from the Apple School Manager (ASM) or to synchronize existing users with the Managed Apple Accounts from the ASM.

Prerequisites

  • A valid DEP Token within the organization where the configuration is to be created.
  • Managed Apple Accounts that have been grouped into at least one class in the ASM (minimum of one student and one teacher).

Configuration

  1. Navigate to Settings: Settings → ASM Import Configuration

  2. Add a New Connection: Configure a new connection via the Add option.

  3. Enter a Name for the Connection: Specify a unique name for the connection.

  4. Test the Connection: Use the “Check Connection” option to verify whether the DEP Token is valid.

  5. Select Locations: Under the Locations section, one or more locations can be selected for the import.

  6. Preview Available Classes: The Preview section displays the classes that will ultimately be imported.

Synchronization Settings

New Users

  • Configure whether users pulled from ASM are created as new users in Relution.
  • This option is only possible if:
    • No users currently exist in Relution.
    • Or the users’ email addresses in Relution differ from the Managed Apple Accounts.

Update Managed Apple ID for Corresponding User in Any Source System

  • Updates the Managed Apple ID field for already synchronized users (e.g., from LDAP) if the matching attributes between ASM and Relution align.

Synchronize Classes

  • Imports and creates classes from ASM into Relution.
  • Recommended only in cases where:
    • No class data exists in Relution.
    • Manual class configuration in Relution is not planned.
    • No LDAP system is in use.
  • Important: If classes are already synchronized via LDAP, this option should not be enabled.

Action When a User is Removed in ASM

  • Specifies whether a user in Relution should be:
    • Deactivated.
    • Deleted.
    • Left unchanged when the user is removed from ASM.
  • If users are only linked and not created, typically only the Managed Apple Account is removed from Relution.
  • For imported and created users, selecting the delete option removes the user from Relution when the user disappears from ASM.

Action When a Class is Removed in ASM

  • Specifies whether classes in Relution should be deleted or left unchanged when they are removed from ASM.
  • If no classes are synchronized, no actions will be taken.

Automatic Synchronization via Cron Syntax

  • Defines the frequency at which Relution automatically imports information from ASM.

Advanced

Mapping Between ASM Users and Relution Users

  • Configures which attribute is used to match users from ASM with users in Relution.
  • The selected attribute should uniquely identify each user.
  • Note: If New Users is not enabled, and none of the selected attributes match users between ASM and Relution, no linkage will occur between the systems.

Mapping ASM User to Relution User

  • Specifies which value from ASM should be used for the user in Relution.
  • Important: The specified value will overwrite the username in Relution.
