Extend VPP and DEP

Introduction

Apple VPP and DEP tokens are valid for a maximum of 1 year and must be extended accordingly. This guide describes how to extend them.

Extend VPP Token

Apple

  1. Log in to Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.
  2. Click on the logged-in user in the bottom left corner.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Select Payments and Billing.
  5. Download the content token for the corresponding location. The file has the format sToken_for_.$Location.vpptoken.

Relution

  1. Log in to the Relution Portal.
  2. Switch to the relevant organization.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Select Account under Volume Purchase Program (VPP) and then the token via the 3-dot menu.
  5. Click on Update Token.
  6. Select the previously downloaded file sToken_for_.$Location.vpptoken.
  7. Click Update Token again to complete the process.

Extend DEP Token

Apple

  1. Log in to Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.
  2. Click on the logged-in user in the bottom left corner.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Under Your MDM Servers, select the corresponding server.
  5. Download the token via Download MDM Server Token.
  6. A message will appear: Downloading a new MDM server token will reset your existing token.
  7. Click Download MDM Server Token again. The file has the format *_smime.p7m.

Relution

  1. Log in to the Relution Portal.
  2. Switch to the relevant organization.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Under Device Platform Specific, select Apple Automated Device Enrollment and then the token via the 3-dot menu.
  5. Click on Update Token.
  6. Select the previously downloaded file *_smime.p7m using Choose.
  7. Click Save again to complete the process.

Common Errors

Frequently, sToken_for_.$Location.vpptoken is uploaded instead of the DEP token in *_smime.p7m format. Relution will show the error message Invalid Token or Invalid file uploaded.

The certificate required in Relution for Apple School / Business Manager has the file extension *.pem. During the handshake, Apple provides the *_smime.p7m token required by Relution.

  • The token with the extension *_smime.p7m should be used for DEP accounts.
  • The token with the extension sToken_for_.$Location.vpptoken should be used for the Volume Purchase Program (VPP).
  • The *.pem file is only needed when creating a new location.
