Add or remove devices from DEP
Introduction
Originally, only Apple devices purchased directly from Apple or from trusted resellers could be added to Apple School/Business Manager. If devices were purchased from other sources, they could not be automatically enrolled in Relution via Apple DEP.
Add Devices
iOS / tvOS devices via Apple Configurator 2
Apple now allows iOS and tvOS devices to be added manually to Apple School/Business Manager using the Apple Configurator. This allows you to enjoy all the benefits of automatic enrolment via DEP, regardless of where the devices were purchased. macOS devices must still be purchased from an authorized reseller in order to benefit from the advantages of automatic enrolment via DEP. Remove devices
Often there are devices that are owned by end users and were added to the DEP for educational purposes, for example, but are later to be returned to private use. In this case, the devices must be properly removed from the MDM and the Apple DEP to ensure problem-free continued use.
Backing up the data
The easiest way to back up user data between reset and new setup is to use Apple iCloud with a private AppleID.
To do this, make sure that the device has Allow account changes
enabled and executed under Restrictions in Relution.
This allows the user to log in to the device with a private Apple ID and perform the desired data backup.
Removal from the MDM
In Relution, the restriction Delete all contents & settings
should be allowed. This way the user can reset his device after the backup.
The user should report back to the Relution administrator, as there is no communication with the MDM due to a previously disconnected WiFi, for example, and therefore no information about the status of the device is available.
Alternatively, the wipe can be triggered in Relution, which will move the device to the trash and update the device information accordingly.
Removal from the Apple School / Business Manager
This deletion can easily be carried out in the Apple ASM/ABM portal without having any immediate effect. Only after the complete reset to factory settings does the synchronization take place, during which the device receives the current information with the disconnection.
DEP and DEP profile changes always become effective after a factory reset.
