Geo-zones

Introduction

This article describes how to automatically assign policies based on device location.
These geofences must be created in advance and then assigned using dynamic device groups.

Restrictions and notes

The geofence function requires a permanent internet connection and a GPS module on the device. So a Cellular iPad or an iPhone, these devices have a GPS module.

If the geo-zone is changed without an internet connection and GPS, a manual sync of the location data must be triggered on the device in the Relution Agent.

Preparation

On iOS devices, it is necessary to give the Relution Agent permission for the location. This cannot be done automatically via the MDM interface. Therefore, users must configure this parameter themselves.

To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Relution Agent > Location on the iOS device and set the value Allow access to location to Always.

If this is not the case, the Relution Agent cannot transmit the current location to the server and an automatic assignment of the policies is not possible.

Setting up a geofence

To define a geofence, navigate to Settings > Zones. Click on Add to create a new geofence. The location can be set by entering an address or by right-clicking on the map. Then save the settings.
An entry should now have been added to the geofence overview. Configure the device group To be able to apply the geofence to a dynamic device group, it must be configured with a filter. Navigate to Devices > Device groups and create a new dynamic device group or edit an existing one. Configure the filter to include active zones. For example, the option is in can be used to include devices in the group if they are in the selected zone. Device groups →
