Backups & Recovery
Introduction
This article describes the backup and recovery measures for Relution-operated ‘Dedicated’ Cloud instances.
Note: For self-hosted instances, backup responsibility lies with the respective operator.
Relution employs a multi-layered backup strategy to ensure the availability and integrity of customer data. All measures are reviewed and refined on a regular basis.
Database
The Relution database operates in a high-availability configuration with automatic replication. This means that the failure of a single database instance is not expected to result in data loss. Further technical measures proactively detect and mitigate hardware issues before they can cause data loss.
Beyond the live setup, database changes are continuously backed up off-site and complemented by regular full backups. This enables recovery to any point in time (Point-in-Time Recovery) within the retention period of up to 90 days.
Following the 3-2-1 principle, backups are created using two independent methods, with one copy stored at an independent provider in a geographically separate location. All data is encrypted at rest with customer-specific keys.
Object Store
Data in the object store is versioned and can be restored together with the database.
RPO and RTO
| Metric | Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| RPO (Recovery Point Objective) | ≤ 5 minutes | Up to 5 minutes of database changes may be lost in a worst-case scenario. |
| RTO (Recovery Time Objective) | ≤ 3 hours (within business hours) | Target time for restoring the service after an outage. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Are backups stored separately?
Yes. Database backups follow the 3-2-1 principle; one copy is stored encrypted at an independent provider in a geographically separate location.
Can I request an individual restore as a customer?
Please contact Relution Support to discuss a restore. On request, recovery to a specific point in time (Point-in-Time Recovery) within the retention period is also possible. A restore by customer request is subject to a fee.
Can the retention period be adjusted?
Yes. The retention period can be customized - at an extra charge - to fit your requirements. Please contact Relution Support to discuss your needs.
What data is covered by the backup?
The backup covers all persistent data of your Relution instance.
