Windows Home Limitations

Introduction

The Windows Home edition is limited in terms of administration possibilities compared to other editions. Functions that are not available can be recognized in the web interface by the fact that they have badges indicating which editions are supported. Accordingly, the Home Edition is not included here.

The restrictions affect the following functions, among others:

Installation of applications

The Microsoft MDM API (CSP) for installing MSIX and Microsoft Store Apps is not available on Windows Home. {Product} is therefore unable to install such applications. As a result, policies that depend on it (app compliance) are also not available.

This restriction also affects the automatic installation of Relution Companion for Windows. As a result, the installation of MSI and EXE packages is also not available on Windows 10/11 Home, since this function requires an installed/configured Companion.

Thus, the following actions are not available on Windows 10/11 Home:

  • Install App
  • Uninstall App
  • Install Office.

Furthermore, the following policy is not available:

  • App Conformance.

Running PowerShell scripts

Running PowerShell scripts requires an installed Relution Companion for Windows. Due to the restriction regarding App installation, it is not possible to install the Companion. Therefore, it is also not possible to run PowerShell scripts via the Companion on devices running Windows Home Edition.

Thus, the following action is not available on Windows 10/11 Home:

  • Run PowerShell script

Display installed applications

The Microsoft MDM API (CSP) for querying installed Modern Apps (Microsoft Store/MSIX) is not available on Windows 10/11 Home. Thus, {Product} cannot discover installed apps for enrolled devices and accordingly cannot display them in a device’s details under Installed Apps.

Discovering apps installed via EXE / MSI requires an installed Relution Companion for Windows. Due to the limitation regarding app installation, it is not possible to install the Companion. Therefore, it is also not possible to detect apps installed via the Companion on devices running Windows Home Edition.

Thus, the following information is not available on Windows 10/11 Home:

  • Display of installed apps.
