Windows Office

Relution allows a Microsoft Office installation to be centrally deployed to Windows devices using a previously created configuration XML. The policy is available starting with Windows 10 version 1703 for the Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

Configuration #

The configuration consists of a single file:

• Configuration XML – required, XML file upload. After the upload, the form shows the content of the file for review.

This XML file is not created in Relution but generated using the official Microsoft tool config.office.com →. There, licensing, the update channel, and which Office apps and languages to install are defined.

Installation and uninstallation #

The installation runs asynchronously on the device. As long as it is in progress, the Change policy action remains in the Not now status.

• Office suite already installed: Relution compares the product ID (<Product ID="…">) of the installation reported by the device with the product ID of the new XML. If they differ, the existing Office suite is first uninstalled completely, and the new configuration is only installed in a subsequent step. If the product ID is the same, the installation is repeated directly without prior uninstallation.
• Removing the configuration: If the configuration or the policy is removed from the device and the device reports an Office installation, Relution uninstalls Office from the device.
• Errors: If the device reports an error during the installation, the compliance violation Windows Office configuration is invalid is created.
