Windows Update

Relution allows the update behavior of Windows devices to be centrally controlled. The policy is available starting with Windows 10 version 1607 for the Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

Automatic Update

  • Auto update behavior: auto install and restart (default), auto install and restart at a specified time, auto install and restart without end-user control, auto install and then prompt the user to schedule a restart, notify before downloading, or turn off automatic updates entirely.
  • For “at a specified time”: Frequency of update installation (starting with version 1709) with Every week (default) or one or more specific weeks of the month (first to fourth week); Every week excludes the selection of individual weeks. In addition, the time (0–23, default 3 AM) and day (default: every day) the update is installed.
  • Scan for app updates from Microsoft Update (off by default)

General

  • Accept updates signed by entities other than Microsoft (only from an intranet update service, signed with a certificate from the “Trusted Publishers” store; off by default)
  • Allow downloads over metered networks (starting with 1709, off by default)
  • Enable auto-restart notifications (off by default) and the period for reminders (15, 30, 60, 120 or 240 minutes, default 15; starting with 1703)
  • Period for restart warnings (2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours, default 4) and for imminent warnings (15, 30 or 60 minutes, default 15; each starting with 1703)
  • Automatic maintenance/wake-up (starting with 1903, on by default)
  • Allow dual scan (starting with 1709, on by default)
  • Deadline grace period (0–7 days, default 2; starting with 1903), no auto-restart outside of active hours until the deadline and grace period have expired (starting with 1903, off by default)
  • WSUS server URL plus an alternate URL; both must be valid http or https URLs
  • Target release version (starting with 1803) and product version (starting with 2004, only effective together with the target release version); for the product version, the portal suggests Windows 10, 10, Windows 11 and 11

User Interface

Starting with version 1809: allow end users access to Windows Update or the ability to pause updates (both on by default).

Active Hours

  • Start and end of active hours (0–23, default 8 AM to 5 PM), maximum range of 18 hours. Active hours may span midnight; if the end is before the start, it applies to the following day.

Quality Updates

  • Auto-restart deadline (2–30 days, default 7; starting with 1703)
  • Pause start date (starting with 1703): quality updates are paused for 35 days from the selected date.
  • Deadline in days (0–30, default 7; starting with 1903)
  • Deferral period in days (0–365 days)

Feature Updates

  • Auto-restart deadline (2–30 days, default 7; starting with 1809)
  • Uninstall period (2–60 days, default 10; starting with 1803)
  • Deferral period in days (0–365 days)
  • Deadline in days (0–30, default 7; starting with 1903)
  • Pause start date (starting with 1703): feature updates are paused for 35 days from the selected date.
